Questions about HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds)
Q: What is history of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds)
A: Read this important article: History of Hemp HeartsTM (shelled hemp seeds) >>
Q: What exactly are HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) and how are they made?
A. HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) are raw, natural, shelled seeds of hemp. These are small seeds or nuts of the hemp plant – please see the pictures on our web site: http://www.healing-source.com/about_HempFoods.htm The hemp plant is also called “cannabis Sativa” but as an industrial plant grown for food, it has no THC, the active chemical that is in marijuana. Industrial hemp is grown for both food and fiber. Our hemp is grown in southern Alberta by farmers. It is cultivated like most grain crops with a combine harvester that removes the seeds. The shells of seeds are then removed mechanically and the soft nuts inside are packaged as HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds).
Q: What is the recommended daily amount?
A: For optimal healing, health and well-being, we recommend 4 – 5 tablespoons per day (42 – 55 g), taken in the morning. A 450 g / 1 lb. container of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) will last you about 10 days at this amount.
Q: Do HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) require refrigeration and what is their shelf life?
A: No. You do not need to refrigerate your HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) – they have a shelf life of up to 1 year, without refrigeration, even after the container is opened. There is enough natural preservative, in the form of Vitamin E, that keeps the HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) from going rancid, naturally.
Q: Are HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) gluten free?
A: Yes. HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) are ideal for gluten-free dietary needs.
Q: Are HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) high in cholesterol?
A: No. HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) are cholesterol free and may actually reduce cholesterol. The oil that is in HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) is the beneficial kind of essential fats – polyunsaturated Omega 3 and 6, in perfect balance for human beings.
Q: Are HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) easy to digest?
A: Yes. The protein in HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) is one of the most easily digestible proteins – more digestible than meat, eggs, cheese or milk products. In addition, HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) are excellent for improving digestion, elimination and overall bowel health. One of the principal factors in proper elimination is having adequate oil (as well as fibre and water) to lubricate the intestinal tract, and promote regularity.
Q: Are Hemp Hearts™ (shelled hemp seeds) safe for people with allergies?
A: HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) are safe for people who are unable to tolerate nuts. gluten, lactose or sugar – there are no known allergies to Hemp Foods.
Q: Are Hemp Hearts™ (shelled hemp seeds) safe for animals?
A: Yes. Those who replace larger amounts of inferior grain-based starchy foods with smaller amounts of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) will usually produce sleek, trim, energetic, healthy animals. Significant consumption of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) is usually effective in reversing most health conditions characterized by poor circulation or inflammation. Older animals with diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and many disorders of the digestive system usually respond well to diets containing significant amounts of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds). Significant use of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) always results in superior hair and skin condition with greatly decreased shedding. Hair appears vibrant; Eczema, psoriasis and most other skin and hair conditions disappear. Those who feed HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) to older pets often notice that their pets have more energy but less aches and pains. Older pets usually act and appear as though they were much younger.
Racehorses and other animals used competitively often continue to exhibit improvements in performance after months of significant use of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds). Initial improvements may be due to the increased energy available with HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds); Continued improvements are often the result of increased circulation, reduced inflammation and more rapid recovery after strenuous competition and injury. Offspring of animals using HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) achieve their potential more completely and more rapidly. Pets that can not eat solid food can be fed Hemp Milk which is made by blending one part HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) with one or two parts water at high speed. Gradually introduce HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) to your pets in foods to which they are already accustomed. The portions of other pet foods can usually be reduced by at least two parts for each weight of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) added. Increase to a daily total of about four measuring tablespoons (32g. or 1.13 oz.) of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) for each 50 lbs (22.72 kg) of animal weight—more for high performance animals.
Q: What Should Be Eaten With HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds)?
A: Every cell in the human body needs a good balance of protein, essential fats, vitamins, minerals and enzymes—every morning. Those who feed their cells properly every morning have good tissue health and no late onset health problems. Those who eat at least 5 heaping tablespoons of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) with raw vegetables for breakfast will always be amazed at the excellent health that results.
First:
For healthy digestive systems — everyone should avoid starches and processed foods as much as possible. The human digestive system needs a lot of roughage—raw, long fiber foods with coarse skins and membranes — so that natural contractions will move the foods being processed quickly and efficiently through our twenty foot long digestive systems.
Cooked, ground, processed foods — especially starches — become pastes which are plastered on the walls of our digestive systems thus preventing the absorption of nutrients. The most recent food pastes are then forced to make worm holes through the older food pastes. Those who eat starches plug up occasionally, forcing their colons to expand to make passages around these obstructions. Surgeons often discover that obese starch-eaters have 50 pounds of 10 year old waste obstructing colons that have expanded in places to become up to ten inches in diameter. Colon hydro-therapists notice during treatments that starch and processed food eaters shed great quantities of solidified castings as they are dislodged with water from the walls of their digestive systems.
Do not eat cereals, breads, potatoes, pastas, rice or ground foods. Those who eat HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) in quantity with roughage early every morning will go to the bathroom after every meal; their stools will be yellow like those of a baby because they have not been retained long; they will experience perfect digestive health.
Those who add starches to this diet will sometimes experience watery stools as liquefied starches are swept through the system by faster moving HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) and roughage. If you are determined to eat cereal with your HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) for breakfast, at least be certain that it is as unprocessed as possible and do not eat starch again that day or you may have watery stools.
Second:
For healthy tissues, weight control and youthful energetic behavior–everyone should avoid starches and processed foods as much as possible. Hunger is the mechanism by which the human body demands protein — our most important nutrient, by far. Those who attempt to satisfy hunger with low-protein starches will become hungry again before they have burned off the calories present in the starches. They will eventually become fat and diabetic or they will starve themselves of essentials, gradually losing the tissue elasticity that allows veins and arteries to expand and contract with each heartbeat — keeping passages clean. They will also lose the tissue elasticity necessary for healthy joint and organ function, thereafter suffering from inflammatory conditions. Poor circulation and failing joints will make them act and appear old and slow and will reduce mental capacity. Deteriorating blood vessels result in stroke, aneurism, heart disease and premature health failure. Starches and processed foods provide energy quickly, but soon leave the individual weak and hungry and looking for coffee or snack foods. Starch-eaters inevitably ride an energy roller coaster, but no amount of sugar and starch can provide the even flow of long-lasting energy necessary to resist stress and ensure success.
Third:
Every cell in the human body needs to be supplied every morning with sufficient protein, essential fats, vitamins, minerals and enzymes for tissue health:
The protein, essential fat and enzyme requirements are easily satisfied by HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds).
The vitamin, mineral and enzyme requirements are easily satisfied by HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) in conjunction with assorted vegetables. The long fiber food requirement is only satisfied effectively by raw vegetables, perhaps with the significant addition of raw fruit for those who are not diabetic. Those who avoid starches while supplying themselves every morning with all of the essential nutrients will have veins and arteries that expand and contract with each heartbeat keeping passages clean — resulting in low blood pressure, excellent circulation, improved body function and optimum mental capacity. They will not suffer from inflammatory conditions and will look much younger than their age. They will have abundant long lasting energy for good mental health and success .
Fourth:
Those who eat at least 5, perhaps 8, Heaping tablespoons of HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) early each morning with salads made with spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, celery, ripe avocado, beans in the pod, alfalfa sprouts and bean sprouts—further flavored with cayenne pepper, garlic, lemon, lime and perhaps some yogurt—always experience profound health and energy benefits. More adventurous salad makers sometimes incorporate cabbage lettuce, kale, chives, water cress, endive, black radish, red beet, dandelion, sorrel, radish sprouts, soaked beans and chia sprouts.
Those who wish to reverse serious disease should avoid anything not on the list above and should drink only water and liquids made from juices of the above.
Those who are in perfect health can add sufficient fruit and protein foods and tea and alcohol to increase their enjoyment of the vegetables above — but should nevertheless avoid starches or they will have watery stools when the starches and processed foods are swept along by digested HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) and long fiber foods.
Those who wish to lose weight should consume their large salad as early as possible in the morning, and eat only a few vegetables without dressing in the early evening — if they are really hungry. On days when they do not wish to lose weight, those who are perfectly healthy may eat meats and fish and fruit and occasionally dessert with their evening vegetables — but never starches.

Hemp Oil
Q: Does Hemp Oil require refrigeration?
A: No. Our pure, Clear Hemp Oil does not need to refrigerated. It has a shelf life of over 1 year. When the bottles are filled they are nitrogen blanketed to displace any oxygen or water vapour.
Q: Can I cook with Hemp Oil?
A: Yes. You can eat Clear Hemp Oil raw or cook with it. Use it as you would any other salad or cooking oil. It is one of the few cooking oils that will not smoke at high temperatures.
Q: Will heating Hemp Oil create trans-fats?
A: No. Laboratory tests have concluded that there is no deterioration of Clear Hemp Oil unless temperatures are well above 250 degrees C (482 F) for much more than one-half hour or well above 200 degrees C (392 F) for longer than 16 hours. Pure Clear Hemp Oil is very stable contrary to public opinion. A lot of people compare it to Flax Oil which is very unstable.
Hemp Bars
Q: Do Hemp Bars require refrigeration?
A: No. Storing your Hemp Bars in a cool, dark place is recommended – direct sunlight and high temperatures might melt the chocolate.
Q: What is shelf life of Hemp Bars?
A: Hemp Bars have shelf life of 6 months (without refrigeration). Although refrigeration is not required we suggest keeping them in a fridge. We do not stock them since they are made fresh each day and shipped within a day or two so you can count 6 months from the day you received them.
Q: Are Hemp Bars vegan?
A: Yes. The chocolate in the Hemp Bars has no dairy – it is bittersweet (dark) chocolate.
Q: Do Hemp Bars contain sugar?
A: Yes. The dark chocolate in half of one bar contains 9 g of sugar, usually insignificant in comparison with the quantities of protein, essential fats and other valuable nutrients present.

A: No. There is absolutely no THC (the active chemical that is in marijuana) in Hemp Foods, not even 1 part per million can be detected.
Q: Will I test positive with drug testing?
A: No. Because there is no THC, you will not test positive for any drug test.
Q: Are Hemp Foods safe to eat if I am pregnant?
A: Yes. Hemp Foods are great natural nutrition for pregnant mothers – consult your doctor if you are concerned about adding a new food to your diet. Give your doctor the link to this web site or a copy of the flyer which is sent with your Hemp Foods.
* THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol ) is the psychoactive ingredient found in hashish and marijuana. While THC is present in all Cannabis plant varieties to some extent, industrial hemp does not contain an amount to produce any intoxicating effect, even in significant quantities. In varieties grown for use as a drug THC levels can reach as high as 24%.
In hemp varieties grown for seed or fibre use, the plants are grown very closely together and a very dense biomass product is obtained, rich in oil from the seeds and fibre from the stalks and low in THC content. EU and Canadian regulations limit THC content to 0.3% in industrial hemp.
Hemp: Organic vs. Identity Preserved
HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) are packaged without additives or preservatives, grown without herbicides or pesticides from non-GMO hemp seed.
Q: Are Hemp Foods certified organic?
A: Our product is grown and processed in Southern Alberta, Canada and is “identity preserved” in lots equivalent to certified organic. Every lot can be traced to its source and is laboratory tested to guarantee the absence of contaminants. Our partner and processor has over 30 years of experience in the food processing business, and designed and constructed the only large facility in the world that is dedicated to the production of shelled hemp seed.
Better Than Organic
There is no hemp that is not GMO free—but every plant type has been modified by human and natural selection to such an extent that no plant type resembles its distant ancestors very much at all. Every plant type changes every few years much more than any scientist has managed with trivial genetic manipulations.
A potato was once an enlarged bit of stem. It was bred into a more typical potato root as a result of hundreds of years of selection by Central American Natives—long before Columbus. It then became many thousands of different varieties, each with unique characteristics, as a result of more recent selection programs—-all this without any assistance from Monsanto.
Rocky Mountain Grain Hemp HeartsTM are better than organic because they come from a climate where the growing season is so short that there are no insects until the crop is well- developed and easily able to compete with insects. We do not need pesticides, but we do not have insect damage.
Rocky Mountain Grain Hemp HeartsTM are better than organic because they come from a climate where other plants die in Winter and do not compete with hemp that is planted on freshly cultivated fields in early Spring. As soon as the hemp has a good start, weed plants can not compete well with tall hemp plants–because the weed plants do not get enough sunlight. We do not need herbicides, but we do not have crops that are thoroughly contaminated with weeds and other grains.
Rocky Mountain Grain Hemp HeartsTM are better than organic because they were not fertilized with animal wastes like most organic crops. Animal waste always leaves e-coli and other fecal microorganisms in the water. The water then always takes these fecal microorganisms to the to the internal parts of plants. Composting only kills some of the microorganisms in the center of the compost pile—not the microorganisms at the edge of the pile. We want our Hemp HeartsTM to be used raw. We do not want Hemp HeartsTM to contain e-coli, listeria, salmonella, campylobacter and the other microorganisms that live in animal waste fertilizer. Our crops receive nitrogen that has been extracted from the air using natural gas for heat—using science not junk science, but making them unacceptable to “organic” associations.
Rocky Mountain Grain Hemp HeartsTM are better than organic because in my industry most organic farmers sell mouldy-tasting, bitter-tasting, mixtures of grains and weeds—relying on the name “organic” to make the sale. Most competitors commonly blend tiny amounts of this refuse with relatively immense amounts of conventional grain. The only thing truly “organic” about their presentation is their label. We have learned how to make Hemp HeartsTM —perfect shelled hemp seeds—every time. Our “organic” competitors are now trying to steal our name Hemp HeartsTM because our products have been consistently better than theirs.
Everyone who has ever washed a white car and then experienced a rain shower on it notices that dark colored air pollution falls with the rain drops on to the surfaces of their car. Properly calculated, the pollution that falls on plants and seeds from the air is immense. The flowers on the male hemp plants produce immense volumes of low THC pollens. These pollens fall and travel with breezes everywhere in the hemp fields. Low THC pollens, like air pollution, stick to the surfaces of all seeds and all other plant material. My competitors make their oil and their hemp protein powder and other products from whole seeds, the shells of which are covered with THC pollens and other types of air pollution. When I test their products for THC, I commonly find 4 ppm THC. I make my products from the heart of the seed after the seed has been scoured and the shells removed. When I test my products–I find zero THC—- to an accuracy of decimal 2 ppm. My competitors’ products therefore have at least 2000 percent more air pollution on their products than I do on mine. (I have done expensive testing relative to the above and my test results are available…….).
Organic Hemp Protein Powder– because of its sandy ground shell content–normally tests with 2000 percent more air pollutants than our shell free Hemp Hearts (REDUCED FAT) PowderTM and other products. Our Hemp Hearts (REDUCED FAT ) PowderTM is the ONLY hemp protein powder that is not sandy and bitter with ground shell particles. In fact, we make 30 premium products from Hemp Hearts—but nothing at all that includes bitter, sandy, ground shell material.
All of our products are made from the “hearts” of the seeds–without shell particles—hence our names Hemp HeartsTM, Hemp Hearts (REDUCED FAT) FlakesTM, Hemp Hearts (REDUCED FAT) PowderTM, Hemp Hearts Dip-Dressing-SauceTM , Hemp Hearts Sparkling Clear OilTM, Hemp Hearts Green OilTM and Hemp Hearts More Than A Square MealsTM—all 25 of them
Much Better Than Organic – It’s Embryonic >>
Q: Do you use herbicides or pesticides in growing Hemp?
A: No. There are no pesticides or insecticides used in cultivating our hemp plants. The crop is hardy, dense and tall, and naturally not subject to significant pest impact. No chemicals are necessary in the production or processing of our product. In addition, all of our products are made from the “hearts” of the seeds–without shell particles—hence our names Hemp HeartsTM, Hemp Hearts (REDUCED FAT) FlakesTM, Hemp Hearts (REDUCED FAT) PowderTM, Hemp Hearts Dip-Dressing-SauceTM , Hemp Hearts Sparkling Clear OilTM, Hemp Hearts Green OilTM and Hemp Hearts More Than A Square MealsTM—all 25 of them
Q: Are there any chemicals used in making Hemp Foods?
A: No. Our shelled hemp seed has not been treated in any way and is free from any chemical preservatives.
Q: Are Hemp Foods irradiated?
A: No. Our Hemp Foods are not irradiated, pasteurized or altered in any way from the natural state which might compromise their food value.
Q: How are Hemp Foods preserved?
A: There is enough natural preservative, in the form of Vitamin E, that keeps the HEMP HEARTS™ (shelled hemp seeds) from going rancid, naturally.
Q: Is the cultivation of Hemp sustainable?
A: Yes. Every part of the hemp plant can be used. The fibre is superior to tree fibre for paper, and superior to cotton for fabric. The fibre can also be used as a building material. Any remaining leaves or unused stalks are fed to animals or used in composting.
